   Ray C. Acosta was born and raised in the Salinas Valley in Northern California. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1981. Ray then attended law school at Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 1984.

   Ray was admitted to the California State Bar in 1985 and began his legal career in San Francisco with the California Department of Industrial Relations as a Legal Counsel. Ray represented the Uninsured Employer's Fund, the Subsequent Injuries Benefits Trust Fund, and the Death Without Dependents Unit. He then joined the California Attorney General's Office as a Deputy Attorney General, representing the California Department of Corrections.

   In 1988, Ray moved to Stockton, California and then joined the State Compensation Insurance Fund as a Staff Counsel. Ray moved to San Diego in 1991 and continued working with State Fund until 2016. He served as an Assistant Chief Counsel with State Fund, managing the San Diego office for over 14 years. During his long career at State Fund, Ray worked with a wide variety of California employers and all State Agencies, litigating and managing their workers' compensation cases. Ray has settled hundreds of millions of dollars worth of cases over the years, including catastrophic injury cases, consolidated lien cases, LC 132a discrimination claims, and Serious and Willful injury cases. 

 

   Ray has been a member in good standing with the State Bar of California since 1985 and a member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar. He is also a member of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association and the San Diego County Bar Association. Ray is married and has three adult children with                                                        his beautiful wife, Josefina.                                                           

 

 

 

                   

                    Joseph D. Martinez

   Joseph D. Martinez was born in Jalisco, Mexico and always dreamt of fighting for people's rights, especially for those unfamiliar with the American judicial system. Since high school, the desire to become a lawyer had always caught his interest. Joseph earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1976, then went on to earn his Master's in Psychology and Education from the California Lutheran University in 1979. Following his Master's, he moved to San Diego and attended the University of San Diego for law school. Joseph then moved to Pennsylvania in 1994 to earn his Juris Doctorate and has been focusing on Immigration and Social Security in San Diego ever since. His devotion to the underrepresented individual fuels his passion for law to this day. In his free time, Joseph enjoys going to concerts(his favorite artist is Carlos Santana), dancing and catching up on reading. Joseph is happily married with 4 adult children.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                          Sarvia Lopez

   Born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Sarvia moved to sunny San Diego in 1971. From an early age, Sarvia Lopez always possessed a fond interest in law and representing others, going on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the ITT Technical Institute in 2011 and then earned a Master's in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University in 2013. Originally interested in Forensics, Sarvia changed her focus to Workers' Compensation due to experiencing a personal injury in the workplace. For 25 years, she has been running the gamut, focusing primarily on Workers’ Compensation and will attend San Francisco Law School in 2020. Over the years, Sarvia's dedication to law has allowed her to develop a strong working relationship with defense attorneys, applicant attorneys and judges, while working as a Senior Hearing Representative in the county of San Diego. When she finds the time, she enjoys walking the many trails of San Diego, spending quality time with her Ihasa Apso puppy named KC and practicing yoga.
 

                        Marina Pinones

   Growing up in Costa Rica, Marina Pinones moved to San Diego when she was 9 years old and immediately fell in love with the city. Straight out of high school, Marina Pinones has been working within the realm of law since 1977. Initially, she majored in Business Administration at San Diego City College, then continued to Grossmont College to earn a Paralegal certification in 1986. Through her experience from working under many attorneys, she developed a fondness for the courtroom drama and thoroughly enjoyed helping with cases. Marina has ample experience working predominately with Workers’ Compensation attorneys but has also helped Civil and Criminal lawyers as well. When she can make the time, she enjoys listening and dancing to Oldies and Spanish music and has a proclivity towards shoes. Marina has two cats that she considers her fur babies, named Zilly Girl and Elvis. Happily married with children, she can’t imagine working in any other field other than law.
